About Us

Originally founded in August 2006 as a reading group for Parker Bordeaux Press, Literally, GEMS is a book club made up of a gifted, eclectic mix of sisters joined by their love of reading. As our name suggests, we are unique, all bringing a different perspective to each discussion and book review.

We are Genuine (telling it like it is), Enlightened (socially and spiritually in touch), Multifaceted (representing all the complexities of the feminine mystique) Sisters. . . Literally, GEMS.

Our Purpose

This book club exists simply to celebrate the written word. We are proud to be in the company of other GEMS who appreciate a good book and the opportunity to support the literary arts.

Our Meetings

Our monthly meetings are fellowship events during which we discuss the book of the month over good food and stimulating conversation. At the end of each meeting, the next book up for discussion is distributed and the next meeting date and location are set.

Our Book Selections

Our members select the book of the month on a rotating schedule. We are particularly fond of Christian fiction and of books written by African American authors though we are not strictly bound to either. The diversity of our membership guarantees variety on our collective book shelf.
